Dutch Heritage Celebration, Twilight Crit

Brandt and I drove almost two hours this morning to Lynden, WA, Dutch capital of the Pacific Northwest. It is a different world up there. The parade was great, but very farming-oriented. The beauty queen was called the Whatcom County Dairy Ambassador and rode in a convertible flanked by two people in cow costumes. And the majority of the parade acts were farming equipment...so of course Brandt loved it. The Taste of Lynden food area had poffertjes, but no pickled herring :(
By far, Brandt's favorite part was the $3 rickety train ride. He enjoyed it too much, in fact, and got incredibly angry when I removed him at the end of the ride. Fortunately I took a video of the whole thing so we can replay it to his heart's content.
I was worn out from the big morning so Dan and Brandt rode to Ballard for the Second Ascent Twilight Criterium without me. They had a great time and I had a great nap so it all worked out in the end. And maybe next year we can watch Dan ride in the crit!
